Supplies for Making a Collage,
to Create a Treasure Map

When making a collage for Treasure Mapping, it is helpful to first gather the supplies that you may need. To help get you off to a great start, here is a list of Treasure Mapping supplies that you may find useful:

THE BASICS:

A Surface for your Treasure Map Collage

First, choose the surface in which you want to put your Treasure Map words and images onto such as a sturdy piece of paper (stock paper or poster board). Magazines and Catalogues

Some of your favorite magazines (and/or catalogues) will be a great asset when making a collage for Treasure Mapping. Make sure they are ones that you have read because you will be cutting picture’s, quotes and words from them!

Although it’s not necessary, you could choose one or two magazines that are specific to your goal. For instance if you are creating a Treasure Map that will express your desire to travel then be sure to have a travel magazine or if your Treasure Map will express your desire to become physically fit, you may choose to add a yoga or fitness magazine. If you are remodeling your kitchen, use your favorite Kitchen Design catalogue.

It is always beneficial to also include a couple magazines or catalogues that don’t seem related to your topic; you may be surprised at what you find in these!

Scissors

Adhesive

To adhere your images onto the medium that you are working with, you have several options: Liquid Glue or Glue Stick, Double Sided Tape Squares (used in scrap-booking) or Push Pins if you are using Cork Board.

Writing Utensils

Something to write with such as colored pencils, markers, crayons or a pen with a pretty colored ink (you may or may not use these but if you want to write or color on your treasure map your will have what you need close by).

OPTIONIAL ADDITIONAL ITEMS:

The above items may be all you need. It is absolutely fine to keep this process simple which may be just what you need to keep moving forward in making a collage. However, the sky is the limit when Treasure Mapping and if you want some additional ideas of things that you can incorporate into your Treasure Maps, keep reading…

I want to share with you a few of my favorite Treasure Mapping suggestions that Shakti Gawain mentions in her book, Creative Visualization:

Copies of Photographs

Shakti introduces the idea to include a picture of yourself on your Treasure Map. She writes, “Show yourself being, doing, or having your desired objective – traveling around the world, wearing your new clothes, or being the proud author of your new book.”

I also like to include pictures of other people when appropriate, for example, if you are creating a treasure map around “deepening your relationship with your partner” -include happy pictures of the two of you. Make sure the pictures hold nice memories for you and elicit emotions that make you feel good when you look at them (happy, peaceful, love, etc).

A Symbol of the Divine

Shakti recommends including “some symbol of the infinite which has meaning and power for you. It could be an “om” sign, a cross, Christ, Buddha, a sun radiating light, or anything that represents universal intelligence or God. This is an acknowledgment and a reminder that everything comes from the infinite source.”

A Cosmic Affirmation

Shakti recommends using what she calls a cosmic affirmation. The example that she gives is “This, or something better, now manifests for me in totally satisfying and harmonious ways, for the highest good of all concerned.” I use this affirmation often when manifesting – with or without a Treasure Map. To me it’s an affirmation of faith and it recognizes that our desires may manifest in a different way then we expect but affirms that however they manifest, it will be in a way that is for the “highest good of all”.

FINAL IDEAS:

Just when you thought your imagination couldn’t be stretched any further for ideas of what to use when making a collage for Treasure Mapping, Sarah Ban Breathnach offers us some additional inspiration…

Additional Miscellaneous Items

In her book Something More; Excavating Your Authentic Self, Sarah writes that gathering magazines and catalogues for making your Treasure Maps is just the beginning! Sarah also recommends gather items such as “favorite quotes, sketches, greeting cards, photocopies of photographs (you don’t want to glue down the real thing), feature article headlines, travel brochures, art postcards, ribbons, menus, pressed flowers, mock-ups of magnificent events you want to occur in the future – and any other darn thing you want that triggers a memory, whether it’s past, present, or to come”.
