Make a Treasure Map and Manifest Your Desires!
Learn how to make a Treasure Map with this step by step process. Treasure Mapping is a fun and creative way to identify and manifest your desires! You can jump right in or you can take a minute to learn more about what Treasure Mapping is and what some of the benefits are to creating a Treasure Map. Are you ready to get started? Let's go! 1. Set Your Intention When you want to make a Treasure Map, the first step is to be clear about what your intentions are for the Treasure Map that you want to make. For instance, do you want to create a Treasure Map that captures desires for your overall life or are you focusing on a specific life area or goal? If it’s the latter, clearly specify which area or goal you are focusing on and why. The more clear and focused you are about your intentions the more direct your soul can be when guiding you to specific items to put on your Treasure map such as pictures, individual words or phrases from various magazines. 2. Gather Supplies Prior to sitting down to make your Treasure Map, there are a couple of things that you can do to prepare. Once you decide on a medium and gather your supplies, find a comfortable place at a table or on the floor somewhere and move onto the next step, creating a sacred space... 3. Create a Sacred Space This is special time that you are spending nurturing the desires of your heart so honor this by creating a special atmosphere for you to “work your magic” in. This includes making sure that you will have uninterrupted time which means, if you have kids make a Treasure Map when they are asleep or in school if possible (unless you want to do one with them). To remain focused, it is recommended to refrain from answering the phone during the time in which you are working on your Treasure Map. Some things you may want to consider to help create a sacred space is to light a candle (or several candles), play some inspirational music or other music that makes you feel good, sip on a drink that you enjoy (perhaps some tea, hot cocoa, a fruit smoothie or whatever your favorite drink may be). 4. Centering When I make a Treasure Map, just before starting, I like to pause and center myself with a prayer and a brief meditation. The core of my prayer is always to be guided from a place of heart as I move thru this process. While it’s exciting to think about manifesting material pleasures, it’s my deepest desire to create a space in which my soul can enter and be present in this process to show me my deepest desires. I pray for spiritual guidance and insight to pour forth onto my treasure map, revealing to me the treasures and the true desires of my heart and soul. Enjoy creating a centering ritual that is meaningful to you. 5. Let the Treasure Hunt begin! Start Cutting! Depending on what the focus of your Treasure Map is, you may be “on the hunt” for specific images and it is fine of course to cut those images out as you find them. It is also important to “allow the images to find you”. In other words, allow yourself to cut out pictures that you love or feel drawn to in some way. If an image creates a reaction within you or just seems to “jump off the page” at you, it’s meant to be yours. You may not even understand why you are drawn to certain images or words but that’s okay, trust your instincts and without analyzing it, cut the image or words from the magazine. The hidden messages or qualities that these images have will reveal themselves to you in divine timing and order. How do you know when it’s time to stop looking for and cutting images from magazines? It is time to when your enthusiasm or energy begins to wane or when you have a feeling of “completion” (whichever one comes first). Take a break or move right into creating your collage. 6. Create your Collage! Sarah Ban Breathnach reminds us of why when we make a Treasure Map (she calls it an Illustrated Discovery Journal), it is a sacred experience. In reference to the Treasure Map collages that we create, she writes, “Remember that these are the illustrated versions of the book your soul is writing for and about you. This is the first rough draft of your magnum opus, which is Latin for “great work,” the most important work in a person’s life.” So now it is time to create your Magnum Opus! It is time to glue, tape or pin your images and words onto your chosen medium (i.e. poster board, cork board, 12x12 scrap booking paper, etc). Have fun with this and arrange your images however you desire. If you end up having some blank space when you are done you can leave it as is or you can always add additional quotes, images, etc. later. When you make a Treasure Map, always remember that there is not one set way to do this; there is plenty of room to play! Enjoy the process as you watch your treasure map come to life! When I make a Treasure Map, I always like to include a powerful affirmation that I got from Shakti Gawain’s book, Creative Visualization. If this affirmation resonates with you, you may want to use it on each Treasure Map that you make. The affirmation is, “This, or something better, now manifest for me in totally satisfying and harmonious ways, for the highest good of all concerned.” 7. Ask yourself “What does my treasure map reveal?” Once you make a Treasure Map, spend some time with it. As you look at your treasure map, what does it tell you? Is there a “story” that the images and words reveal to you? Are there any surprises that came thru? When you look at the images and words that you have chosen, are there certain essences or qualities that shine thru such as joy, love, peace, etc? Some of the treasures will be obvious while others may be “hidden” within the images that you see and they may not be visible at first glance. As you spend time with and reflect upon your Treasure Map, the hidden treasures will reveal themselves in perfect divine timing and order. You may be surprised to discover the messages that your soul delivers thru to you thru your Treasure Map! 8. Visit your Treasure Map daily After you make a Treasure Map, place it somewhere that you will see it daily or even in a place that you will see it throughout the day so that you may be reminded of your desires frequently! Take a few conscious moments each day to spend some time looking at and enjoying your Treasure Map. As you look at the images, imagine these desires being fulfilled in your life right now and feel how good this feels! Express and feel your gratitude!
Remember that the beauty of treasure mapping is that you can't do it incorrectly! This is a wonderful opportunity to allow yourself to be free in allowing your desires to pour fourth. Enjoy the process and have fun with it!
