Making the Intuitive Connection

What is the intuitive connection? It is the different ways in which we connect to our intuition to receive guidance.

There are four primary ways that we can make the intuitive connection; thru intuitive seeing, intuitive feeling, intuitive hearing and intuitive knowing.

We can think of these connections as our divine communication channels or as our 4 intuitive or physic senses.

The awareness of these 4 intuitive senses is a great place to begin when learning how to develop intuition.

If you are wanting to learn how to recognize your intuitive guidance, I highly recommend Doreen Virtue's book, Divine Guidance - How to Have a Dialogue with God and Your Guardian Angels. She explains the 4 intuitive senses in depth and shares tips and exercises on ways to develop each one.

If you prefer a more scientific approach, you may enjoy Pete Sanders book, You Are Psychic. Pete's book also provides exercises and real life examples of how people receive information thru each intuitive sense.

The information provided below on the four intuitive senses is based on the content from both of these books.

The Four Primary Intuitive Senses

Pete Sanders explains that each of these intuitive or psychic senses "have a specific location on or around the body that serves as a natural antenna to pick up and amplify the psychic signals".

Pete points out that by being aware of and focusing on each of these areas, our ability in to receive information thru each psychic/intuitive sense is often enhanced. The Reception areas listed below and they are what I refer to as the sensory location.

To assist you in making the intuitive connection, here is an overview of the four primary ways in which we receive intuitive guidance thru our senses:

Intuitive Seeing - (also called Clairvoyance or “Clear Seeing”)

Intuitive seeing is when we see with our inner vision rather than our physical vision. When we make the intuitive connection with our inner vision, guidance may come as a single image, picture or symbol or you may see a series of images (like a mini movie). These images may appear internally (inside your head) or externally (outside of your head).

Some people with strong intuitive vision can see other people’s aura’s, which is the energy field that surrounds a person’s body). While it may seem that they are looking at the aura with their physical eyes, it is really the inner intuitive vision that allows this to take place. Also, when we dream (in our sleep or daydreaming) our intuitive seeing is active. It is our inner vision that allows us to see our dreams.

The sensory location for this intuitive seeing is located between your two eyes but in the middle of your forehead. This area is often referred to as the third eye. You may be able to sense this location easiest with your physical eyes closed.

Intuitive Hearing - (also called Clairaudience or “Clear Hearing”)

Guidance comes thru a voice that you hear which may or may not sound like your own voice. This voice may sound like it is in your head or it may come from outside of your head.

You may hear a single word, several words and even sentences. You may even hear the words of a song that provides some meaning for you.

The sensory area for intuitive hearing is on each side of the head, right above the ears.

Intuitive Feeling - (also called Clairsentience or “Clear Feeling”)

Guidance comes thru intuitive feeling as a physical or emotional sensation. This is what the term "gut feeling" relates to. Doreen points out that guidance can also come thru this sense as a smell, tightened muscles, or a touch.

Goosebumps and chills can also be a form of guidance that comes when making the intuitive connection thru our feeling sense. Guidance that comes as a warning of danger may manifest as an uneasy or unpleasant feeling in the stomach such as nausea, discomfort or even pain.

The sensory area for intuitive feeling is the stomach area which is often referred to as the solar plexus.

Intuitive Knowing - (also called Claircognizance or “Clear Knowing”)

Guidance comes as clear and spontaneous knowing. You don’t know how you know, you just know. Doreen writes, "Claircognizance occurs when we receive Divine information as ideas, concepts, and thoughts. We don’t hear, see, or feel this Divine information as it comes into our consciousness; it just suddenly appears."

The sensory area for intuitive knowing is at the top of the head, also called the crown chakra. Pete says to "picture an open funnel extending upward from the center of the brain, widening as it emerges from the top of the head."

Identifying Your Dominant Intuitive Sense

It is beneficial to be aware that while we are all capable of making the intuitive connection thru each intuitive sense, each person usually has one or two of these senses that they are more dominant than the others.

Once you determine which sense is your dominant one, work on strengthening and using that one. You will likely find that as you do, your other intuitive senses begin to open as well. Once you are accustomed to receiving guidance thru your dominant sense, it will feel like second nature. You can then begin to strengthen your other intuitive senses, one by one.

Doreen shares a simple way to help you determine your dominant intuitive sense: As you go thru your day, if you pay attention mostly to what you see during your daily activities, you are likely to be strong in Intuitive Seeing. If you usually pay attention to people’s voices, music and noises your dominant intuitive sense is probably hearing. If you experience the world thru your emotions and how you feel, you are likely strong in intuitive feeling. "Those who focus on the underlying messages and meanings of their experiences are more cognitively oriented. Their Divine guidance would come claircognizantly" (as a "clear knowing").
