Forgiveness Exercises for Forgiving Others and Forgiving Yourself

Forgiving others and even forgiving ourselves is not always easy. In fact, how do you forgive someone who has hurt you? How do you forgive yourself for regrets that you have? The truth is, even when we want to engage in the process of forgiving others or ourselves, we don’t always know how to go about it.

There are many articles and books on forgiveness that have been written to help us understand the importance of forgiveness but when it comes right down to it we need specific tools to assist us in the process of forgiving others and in forgiving ourselves. The exercises below will help you to reach your forgiveness goals.

Forgiveness Exercises

Since reconciliation isn't always possible in the physical realm, these exercises go beyond the physical realm and into the spiritual and they work on an energetic level. As you will see, these exercises are all similar to one another but you may find that you like one or two better than the others.

My suggestion is to read thru them all and then you can decide which ones you would like to do. While the exercises below are numbered, each one is meant to be used by itself or in conjunction with these forgiveness steps.

Exercise #1: Forgiveness Inventory

This is a thorough exercise where you identify and practice forgiveness towards others who have offended, hurt or upset you in some way throughout your life.

Exercise #2: Overcoming Resentment

This exercise will help you to dissove resentment and release the toxic effets that resentment can have on your mind, body, emotions and spirit.

Exercise #3: How to Ask for Forgiveness

As you will see in this exercise, asking for forgiveness does not need to be a face to face encounter. This exercise guides you in asking for and receiving forgiveness on an energetic, spiritual level.

As the above exercises become familiar to you, you may find that you like to combine different parts of them to customize a version that is uniquely yours. Then again, you may just simply choose to keep each version as it is. Either way, you can return to your chosen forgiveness exercises again and again, as often as you need too.
