1. Introductory Note From the Editor, Susan Mathews.
Welcome to summer! Summer brings thoughts of lazy days (or evenings), time spent outdoors by the pool, beach, lake or local park, lemonade stands, picnics, vacation, catching fireflies and the list goes on and on!
Of course, summer is always a good "excuse" to take some time off from our daily commitments to read a wonderfully entertaining, inspiring, nurturing book.
In my opinion, one of the greatest pleasures is a good book that you can lose yourself in for an hour or two…or three… Reading a good book feels like a luxury and it is a treasured retreat, wherever you may be!
This summer, beat the heat and read in an air conditioned environment or pack your book and take it to your favorite outdoor summer spot!
If you are looking for a good book to dive into this summer (or any time), you are in luck! I’ll be sharing a few of my top picks with you in this issue of Happiness Information 4U.
Also, in this month’s ezine issue you will have a chance to learn more about what has been referred to as the "largest regular prayer network in the world" and you are invited to join!

3. Good Book Recommendations
Now, off to the wonderful world of books! Please note that this list is not in order of preference, I think they are all great! The three top choices that I've included in this ezine are:
1. The Invitation by Oriah Mountain Dreamer
2. Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert
3. The Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield.
If you have already read these books, I think you will agree that they are worth reading again. If you haven't read them, you are in for a treat. Either way, enjoy!
The Invitation Poem and Book
by Oriah Mountain Dreamer
Oriah Mountain Dreamer wrote The Invitation Poem one night after returning from a party. Oriah explains, "I don’t usually attend parties but on this occasion, berating myself for being anti-social, I made an effort to go and be friendly. I returned home feeling frustrated, dissatisfied with the superficial level of the social interaction at the party. I longed for something else."
Oriah says that The Invitation poem is an an expression of all the things that she really does want to know (and share) with others. She writes that The Invitation is “. . . a declaration of intent, a map into the longing of the soul, the desire to live passionately, face-to-face with ourselves and skin-to-skin with the world.”
Later, Oriah wrote The Invitation book and in the book, she expands on each stanza of The Invitation poem. She also shares several meditations throughout the book.
Oriah writes from the deepest place within herself. She acknowledges and writes about both the joys and the hardships of life. Oriah is not afraid to dig to the core of her being to explore and share the truth's that she finds there.
The Invitation (the poem and the book) invites each reader to reach within themselves to seek deeper meaning and substance to life and to find what sustains us in life from the inside - out.
Oriah shares that The Invitation is an expression to “live fully awake” and she says that The Invitation "is the story of the human heart’s capacity and longing to live intimately with all of life - the joy and the sorrow, the hope and the fear".
I have found Oriah’s writings to be honest, insightful, soulful and inspirational. The Invitation Book is a short, easy and enjoyable book to read!
Do you want to "sneak a peak"? You can preview The Invitation book here.
The Invitation..."A remarkable book...A Fierce and tender presence, its wisdom could become a lifelong companion, engaging and awakening the original and unique rhythm of your mind and soul."

Eat, Pray, Love
by Elizabeth Gilbert
Eat, Pray, Love written by Elizabeth Gilbert is an all around great read! After going thru some hardships, including a difficult divorce, Elizabeth leaves all that is familiar to her and sets off on a “solo” journey across the world thru Italy, India and Indonesia.
It is sheer delight to travel along with Elizabeth on her journey. Thru her eyes and words we too get to enjoy the pure pleasure of her travels and along the way we have the incredible pleasure of witnessing one woman on a journey of self discovery and “recovery” as she experiences soulful pleasures, spiritual insights and abundant adventure.
While Elizabeth may have traveled solo, it is easy to see why she made so many friends along the way! She is real, down to earth, honest and funny! If you love reading a book that is hard to put down (and a pleasure to pick up), you will enjoy this one! You may find yourself crying and laughing….out loud!
Do you want to "sneak a peak"? You can preview the Eat, Love, Pray book here. Also, check out Elizabeth Gilbert's speaking schedule if you would like to see her in person, she may be coming to a town or city near you!
"This is a wonderful book, brilliant and personal, rich in spiritual insight, filled with sorrow and a great sense of humor. Elizabeth Gilbert is everything you would love in a tour guide, of magical places she has traveled to both deep inside and across the oceans: she's wise, jaunty, human, ethereal, hilarious, heartbreaking, and God, does she pay great attention to the things that really matter."
- Anne Lamott, author of Traveling Mercies

The Celestine Prophecy
by James Redfield
The Celestine Prophecy is a great story of mystery, discovery and spiritual growth. The novel starts with the main character reconnecting with an “old” friend from who he finds out that there is an ancient manuscript in Peru that has been discovered. The main character’s friend explains that the “manuscript predicts a massive transformation in human society.”
Intrigued by what his friend tells him, the main character feels compelled to go to Peru. The rest of the story is full of adventure as the main character travels thru Peru in search of the manuscript. His search becomes a dangerous one as the government is working to suppress the manuscript for confidential reasons. The main character’s courageous search for the manuscript leads him thru nine spiritual insights and a spiritual awakening.
The Celestine Prophecy was originally published in 1993 and the Celestine Vision website states that “THE CELESTINE PROPHECY spent over 3 years on the New York Times best sellers list and appeared on lists around the world. It was the #1 international bestseller of 1996 (#2 in 1995); in 1995 and 1996, it was the #1 American book in the world.” The Celestine Prophecy has been translated into 34 languages. The Celestine Prophecy Movie was released in 2006.
After writing the Celestine Prophecy, James Redfield has published two sequels: The Tenth Insight: Holding the Vision and The Secret of Shambhala: In Search of the Eleventh Insight. James is currently working on the Twelfth Insight which is scheduled for release early in the year of 2010.
I really enjoyed The Celestine Prophecy (and its sequels)! It’s not always easy to find novels that have a spiritual essence to them. This is indeed a good one!!
The Celestine Prophecy is "...a spiritual classic…a book to read and reread, to cherish, and to give to friends.”
- Joan Borysenko, Ph.D., author of Fire in the Soul
